Kenny Teague, a retired mechanical engineer, creates his beautifully patterned wood turnings through a specialized process known as Segmented Construction. First, the shape, colors and pattern of the piece must be carefully planned, then Kenny meticulously cuts the many small, precise pieces he will need to complete the design from woods of contrasting color and texture. After the individual pieces are cut, they are assembled and glued together, following the design pattern, into a single laminated body. This laminated piece is then ready to be mounted on the turning lathe and sculpted with specialized hand tools into a complex and intricate work of art.
