Form vs. Function

Ed Bryan’s stoneware reflects a split personality…functional and decorative. Hemp wrapped handles and aged copper accents edge the pieces toward decorative. Vessels for carrying water, serving platters and hanging bird houses focus on the utilitarian aspect. Influenced by traditional Japanese pottery, much of  his work focuses on simple shapes and muted colors. Occasionally, there is a bit of whimsy, as seen in the featured Toby Jug.
