John Stoudenmire

Summerville, SC
Ceramics

Unique, inspired stoneware and porcelain pieces! When John makes a piece, basic wheel throwing and hand building are just the beginning. He lavishly embellishes his pieces with hand crafted sculptural forms, incised and pressed texturing, and detailed glaze painting. Many objects, like his toad houses, bird houses, and bird feeders are covered with raised, organic details leaves, vines and textured bark. John’s pieces are completed functional and may be safely left outdoors even in very harsh weather. His serving pieces are food and oven safe, but embellished pieces should be hand washed to protect the raised areas from chipping. John enjoys firing decorative raku pieces, and these are occasionally available at the gallery. He is a public school secondary voice teacher at the Berkeley Center for the Arts at Goose Creek High School where he begins his 44 th year of teaching all at the same school. He is also the organist at the Presbyterian Village of Summerville, SC. His wife, Myungsook is a celebrated concert artist and teacher of piano in the Charleston, Summerville, and Columbia, SC area.
